Oh man, this is so nuanced. I wanted to say Kyle was the bad guy for pushing for an open relationship, but having your partner not try enough to learn to ASL and communicate with you is heartbreaking. They're both so hurt, but they clearly love each other so much :(

That’s part of being in a relationship though… taking care of one another through the hard times and sometimes having to step up more than the other… idk I feel like that was kind of mean from the husband to say he doesn’t want to feel like the parent.

My parents also didn’t know I was deaf till I was 4. I had surgery that fixed it for me, but it was common back then not to know. At least that’s what my parents tell me lol

I also navigated this during COVID with my mom who’s profoundly deaf and relies on lip reading, but I didn’t resent her for it. Because you should want to help your loved ones when the rest of the world is not accommodating them and they are struggling to navigate.
