for this one, my attack plan would be... buy the original debt (assuming I legally could) for 1/10 the value. So, $2,500 debt purchase for $250. Then I'd make an honest attempt to obtain the $2,500 for a clean payoff. However, the business already stiffed the original owner of the debt so they are likely to stiff me too. So, after my honest attempt to collect fails, I get a lawyer to sue the business for $25,000. I think that would be fair, especially since they were court ordered to pay in small claims and refused. My lawyer makes $2,500... I walk away with $22,500. And because settlements are non taxed, I get it free and clear.
