@skinandbodylab.ca: Replying to @Blue Treating Melasma.. Most of my suggestions from my hyperpigmentation video apply when treating melasma Specifically… 1. SPF (preferably tinted) 2. Retinoids 3. Chemical exfoliation (mandelic & azelaic acid is especially great for inflammation) 4. Tyrosinase Inhibitors (hydroquinone, arbutin, kojic acid, Tranexamic Acid. But hydroquinone is the most effective for melasma) What melasma needs that is different from regular hyperpigmentation .. ✨ Melasma is impacted by hormones and internal factors like diet, stress.. as well as external factors like weather & lifestyle 🥗 I am not a dietitian and cannot give advice about this, but taking a look at your diet and what may be triggering flare ups is worth exploring! (Diet alone can NOT cure melasma, it can only be managed. Be weary of anyone promising this) ☀️ Heat can cause flare ups.. sauna, steam room, hot yoga, prolonged sun exposure without protection. Also be cautious of heat based skin devices like certain lasers, Radio frequency, LED lights, steam during facials, etc. 🧪 Chemical peels and micro needling can be helpful tools with managing your melasma, but make sure you are working with someone who has extensive experience with melasma and skin of color! Overdoing controlled injuries can make it worse! It’s a balance between causing a controlled injury but not TOO MUCH that you worsen the situation. The truth is, melasma is lifelong.. It flares up, calms down, and comes back again. There’s no quick fix or “cure”. It’s all about learning your triggers, being consistent, and patient with yourself. Trying to improve your melasma? Save this for later! ✨ I also offer virtual consultations! Link in bio to book #h#hyperpigmentationmelasma #melasmatreatment #e#estheticianmelasmaskincare

two rounds of cosmelan peel + on and off HQ rx is the only thing that helps me, lasers and micro-needling did nothing for me

I had a half melasma mustache on the left side last summer from driving 😂. Can we get approved for darker window tint for this? SPF did not help

I use HQ every other night, 0.025 Tret the other nights (Sunday is break from all, moisturize). Mornings I use vitamin c, azelaic & kojic advanced serum (allies of skin) for two months now and nothing.. still full mask melasma. 33 with zero children. I wear tinted spf, and hats any time I’m outside. Even in the car. What am I doing wrong 😭

I got it at 28 - not pregnant, hormones fine, not on hormonal contraception. I eat a non inflammatory diet on purpose (lots of veg and only eat fish no meats) and surely eat processed foods. I have no idea why I have it. Mines so so mild but it’s stubborn. The only thing I can think of is I moved from the UK to NZ? uv induced???

As a dietitian, thank you for that. Most people just go ahead and drop the wrong info.

I’ve been using hydroquinone. Probably for too long. Bc it’s never worked. I’ve done hydroquinone and tretinoin together. Nothing is working. I don’t know what to do!

Tretinoin seemed to be working but every time I did my facial waxing it burnt my skin. Would it have made my skin too thin? Or is there a way around this? Also does infrared light masks help or hinder?
