At the heart of it, dating apps decided on a business model that created an inherent conflict of interest between users’ goals (of finding their person) and how the company generates sustainable revenue. I think all the other problems, like the ones you mentioned, stem as symptoms of that foundational problem. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights on this.

Your commenter is right. Divorced 19 years. Dating apps were better then, still not great. Now I won’t even consider them. The intent is not for them to be successful, it is to keep you on them. They have devolved into a cesspool. If you haven’t used dating apps, you don’t know the experience. I’d rather not date at all than use them. Any time I have I feel worse about myself. Dating before them was much easier, IMO.

Yeah, my issue with dating apps is that they're really inept matchmakers. Just because someone is into the same type of music as me does not mean anything about our irl chemistry! and many people are assuming a lot about someone that has a certain political affiliation or religion (and dare i say race?). It's all a mirror of our preconceived notions.
