@ariana.living: I can only speak for Europe so far. We have had two European assignments and both required a decent amount of money OOP. #pcsseason #militaryspouse #milsolife #military #pcsoverseas PCS to Germany PCS to Italy
And more than that when moving back to the US from an OCONUS assignment 🥲

Yeah, we don’t even have kids and it easily cost us 10k to get into a house (off post) and get all the car stuff figured out here in Germany. (You have to pay the deposits and front the first month of rent and that alone was 5k.)

FACTS! We had 20k in savings and GREAT credit when my husband enlisted. Two duty stations later, and one drunk soldier totaling our new car and giving me a TBI when we both had USAA (and they didn’t pay off the car or help with any other expenses), I’m disabled and we are in so much debt and an OCUNUS duty station, I don’t know how we will pay our bills or provide for our kids this month. He wants to get out after this contract and is currently deployed and our pending deposit at NFCU is less than half of his usual pay for a “salary offset” that even with a power of attorney, finance won’t tell me why. This is life and it’s NOT great!

Can you elaborate? We’ve been overseas twice and while I agree there’s out of pocket expenses, it’s never been close to $10k for us. But we don’t have kids, does that factor into it?

i think it depends on where u go...our pcs to Germany in 2021 cost us less than 2000 out of pocket...we didnt havw kids back then and no pets so it didnt cost...we also did plane to pillow...our pcs back to the US drained us

We lived overseas twice and it was as a pvt, and Sgt. we didn’t have savings and we got post housing and did it all on his income. Way back in the day.

The area I am In is expensive! Our rent is 3200 EURO monthly so we had to pay a prorated month first month and deposit which was an easy 10K USD. That didn’t include all the other items u have to buy such as converters car registration, rental car while u wait 4 ur car, household basics to name a few.

You can take a loan out and get dislocation allowance but I agree about saving 10k. Seems impossible but you gotta have something saved up to get caught up.
