I’m 54 and now on day 24 of the silent treatment AGAIN! I’ve had enough now! Can’t take it anymore! I have 4 amazing kids and would never ever treat them the way she’s treated me over the years! Sent treatment has to be the worst thing ever

I'm 34 and my dad is still giving me the silent treatment and my mom says she's disappointed in me because I'm not choosing as she wishes for my life 😅

We need to support our adult children…it’s their life! If they make mistakes, they can fix them, not us! We had our time years ago to do that! Coming from emotionally immature parents, not narcissistic but they raised me to take care of them emotionally, I strive very hard to support my adult children with love and pride. And zip my lips! It’s not difficult, people! 🥰

My mother...currently year 3.5 getting the silent treatment.😂 I joined the military at 21 and I "abandoned my family". I moved one city away and that was me "Stealing my son from her". Took me 35 years to finally see her and be done with her crap!

My mother only gave the silent treatment and constant criticism. She would roll her eyes and constantly put us down. Respect and honour only worked one way in my home growing up

I didn't realise it wasn't normal until I got married. My mother in law is a healthy mother. I love her so much and am so thankful for her everyday.

The famous Beatrice Potter who wrote Peter Rabbit was controlled by her victorian parents until she was 40. She had a wonderful life after she left them. I wonder if she winged about them.

If we grew up in a narcisist family with control and cold treatment when we hace our on children do we repeat the circle?

I’m a 45 year old mom who spent many years in therapy to break the cycle of trauma from a BPD parent. It’s still difficult to navigate the behaviors of this parent especially when said parent tried to commit suicide because their life choices caused chaos. I’m having to cut ties with the disfunctional parent all the while discussing this in a way that doesn’t cause friction with your children. There’s still a voice inside of me that has an iota of hope that this parent will put in the work to get better to be “functional”. My battle is to remind myself that they are not willing to get better and will always suck you into their chaos

Unfortunately I don't have a healthy set of parents. My father is an absent narcissist and my mother is a controlling authoritarian. I'm still treated like a child at 25.

I had no say in what I wore or how my hair was styled until middle school. Then still very controlled. During middle school, when all girls are self conscious I was told I was vain for worrying about how my hair looked. Not once did she ever help with my hair or make up. Unless it was brushing very very hard so it hurt then snapping my head with rubber bands or whatever I was putting in my hair. Until middle school I was always vastly over dressed like a doll so that I stood out and was made fun of. My mom made fun of me to all of her friends my entire life. Zero privacy. She told every family member and friend any and everything good or bad. Mostly bad that I did. ( I’m a late life diagnosed high functioning autistic with adhd). She literally mocked me for not knowing to shave the bikini area where I thought people could not see. She laughed at me literally at the pool while she was sunbathing with her group of friends and day drunk. Good times. She picked me up one time at a high school function and she was always “gregarious and over the top. Very auntie mame”. I’ll never forget a guy in our group saying “she isn’t funny she is just drunk” I could go on all day. She passed in 2017.
