I was 12 and was forced to wear a leotard with no legs at my gymnastics competitions or I'd get points deducted. Most of the judges were male and even then I knew it wad weird.

Better question, why even have uniform? Everyone has different comfort level, just let people show up in what they're comfortable with. Leggings, sweat pants, hoodies, all should be allowed.

Even though this story is from 2021 (it actually led to a rule change!), the fact that women had to fight for the right to wear shorts in the first place is the definition of a misogynistic system.
