Finally someone says it correctly. Under 2s should not watch by themselves. The parent should be interacting with as they watch the show. Tv isn’t bad. Dumping your child infront of it for hours with no human interaction does.

I was raised on tv and have a Masters degree lol. My husband and sister were the same, also have Masters degrees. Don’t panic too much if your kid uses a screen. Teach your kids things, spend time with them. Using a screen sometimes is not going to destroy their lives.

I think he hit the nail on the head. We need to look at the contact being viewed and produced. Demonising screens although isn’t really a realistic answer for many of us. Especially if you have older and younger children.

😕😕😕😕 strangely my daughter has learnt how to say full sentences & her colours, numbers and shapes all from watching children’s tv at the age of 1!

This is why we don’t show our son any of this new stuff. Little bear, Franklin, Magic Schoolbus, old shows are where it’s at. We did let him watch the dancing fruit at one point as more of an eye trainer, black and white books, spinning toys, but stopped shortly after. Low stimulation shows have helped tremendously.

My girls learnt loads from their programs numbers, letters, colours and animals. Screen time isn’t bad but I do agree there should be a limit. Most of the time it’s background noise and mine just play with their toys.

Not a lot of parents will listen unfortunately. It’s too convenient. Sit the kids in front of the TV, that’ll keep them quiet. I’ve tried explaining the known effects of kids constantly watching this newer form of children’s television to my sister, who has two kids, but she takes no notice because if they’re not on the TV, they’re not quiet.
