My platelet count has been high since 2015, iron was low but now sorted and my doctor still wants to wait another 2 months before referring me, it’s incredibly frustrating.

The question now is...do GPs have any understanding of the causes for having iron anemia? as I don't feel like they do. I feel they just read the test results saying your deficient and then prescribe iron if needed and then told, well off you go.... I also believe from my experience you can't get a referral for further testing at secondary care for love nor money anyway! 😭

My husband was diagnosed with MDS 2 years ago, his hemoglobin remains low despite retacrit injections every 2 weeks. They are going to put him on Luspatercept next week. His iron is fine, his biopsy showed Cytogenetics and FISH show trisomy 8. NGS study shows DNMT3A, SF3B1 and TP53 mutations , the tp53 is recent. our hematologist said only the man in the sky could stop it from turning to leukemia, not happy with answer My husband is 75 and not a candidate for a bone marrow transplant.
