@queenofthemild: I have been without my car for months because CarMax won't do the right thing and now I'm being asked to spend thousands despite getting their "warranty." #carmax #carproblems #consumerissues #warranty #usedcar
I am a paralegal. I believe your options are to have them do a tear down at your cost. If it’s not covered take them to small claims court. It’s possible that CarMax might settle with you as they will likely need to retain counsel.

Do you have the service report from the first shop?

Yup that's pretty much all extended warranty companies now. They take your money, then say whatever they can to deny the repair. Same as the health insurance companies

Call your bank.. get them involved.. that car is owned by the bank not you. They will get it fixed.. they want the money payments not the car.

It was overheating before you bought it (hence the reason for wholesale) do they moved it and sold it

Unfortunately, that's very common with most extended warranties. You have to read the fine print of what they actually cover. People are usually responsible for the tear down cost. They want to use salvaged parts over new/rebuilt. They do not pay full shop tate, so you're left holding the bag for the difference between their reimbursement and what the shop charges and many other things like that.

I hope you get this figured out - who was the warranty company? Sadly, some are out there for profit only and only care about taking your money. There are good ones though!

Contact a lawyer for the warranty company. If they first agreed that it was the head gasket, then it should have been replaced then. Also, contact Dealership association in your state. I am reading comments about it being a Volvo(our family has great luck with them over the last 20yrs), so I don’t agree. Did you get a Carfax on this Volvo? It may pay off to run one, if you didn’t at the sale. Perhaps it was noted on previous owner maintenance record. If so, then CarMax sold you a lemon and they would know it. Best wishes on getting it resolved.

Sounds like you’re down to two choices dump the car or get it fixed yourself. It sucks either way.

Extended warranties are a ripoff. Volvos are good cars. Carmax sold you a car with problems and hoped you just deal with it with that BS warranty. I would never get a car from them. It sucks. Sorry you are dealing with that tho

When you open an engine, you can’t tell why a head gasket leaked, it’s an age related part. @thDon’t buy extended warranties, period. Those 3rd party warranties are never worth it.

all of CarMax and carvanna cars are wholesale cars that are just moved around the country until they sell ,they are wholesale cars because they were too much of a problem for the first dealer that had them as a trade to deal with so they wholesaled it
