MTA Bridges and Tunnels and the E-ZPass company are “scamming people.” The MTA Bridges and Tunnels Authority is “scamming people” by taking their vehicles and suspending their registrations. These tolls will charge your E-ZPass, but then the MTA Bridges and Tunnels Authority will turn around and claim you didn’t pay the toll. The MTA Bridges and Tunnels Authority will not notify you, will add penalties, and will suspend your registration, then send law enforcement to pull you over.
“ MTA Bridges and Tunnels scamming people ”. On May 5, 2025, I was stopped by TBTA Police Officer Edward J. Elsis and charged with a violation of Vehicle and Traffic Law § 512 (suspended registration). During this stop, the officer confiscated my license plates, allowed me to retain possession of the vehicle, and escorted me off the highway. The citation issued only stated “suspended registration” and did not include any supporting details.
The officer later stated on video that the suspension was related to unpaid tolls, multiple parking tickets, and insurance lapses; however, none of these additional allegations were included in the citation.
This matter was brought before a Manhattan court, where the citation was dismissed by Judge McDonnell, P. on June 24, 2025. The court did not provide a specific reason for the dismissal.
Despite the dismissal of the citation, the DMV has refused to reinstate my registration, stating that MTA Bridges and Tunnels continues to maintain a hold for alleged unpaid tolls. The DMV has also refused to accept the court’s dismissal as sufficient to resolve the issue.
