Her saying “I want to be informed too” is great. Kudos to you for advocating for yourself and others. I think they’re “assuming” what has gluten based on obvious gluten. As you mentioned- seasonings can have gluten. So it’s important they don’t ‘guess’

They need to make policy where employees should not be allowed to say anything about allergies when I worked at Wendy's they had a policy we can direct you to our allergen list and can tell you how we prepare food, but it is up to the person who has an allergy to make their best decision on if they want to take the risk to eat anything on the menu.

I’m celiac and I’ve also been a server for over 20years. If it’s not a celiac specific restaurant never expect it to be safe. There is way too much education needed for too many staff to understand how simple cross contamination can happen and not many restaurants have that capability as well as the space and separate equipment. 🤷♀️

Staff was entirely unprofessional here, coming from a restaurant manager. If a guest was asking about an allergen and I could not read the ingredients in front of me to confirm no gluten, I would not feel comfortable serving that food to them. And immediately arguing with you about there being gluten in there instead of apologizing is crazy

I’m celiac and I’m baffled by this honestly. Unless a place is 100% gluten free, you have to go in being extra cautious. If the allergen menu isn’t updated I ALWAYS look online to see if I can find the updated allergen menu. Cross contamination can happen so easily, and employees are undertrained. It’s not their fault even if the item did have gluten.

As a server, I’m the type to look at all the ingridents to see if there is gluten, especially in the seasoning and what they marinate it in. You can never be to careful. If you have an allergy, I’m going to go out of my way to accommodate you.
