One thing I love about this show, is that fights aren’t determined by who’s the strongest. How much she can blow up with her powers isn’t the cornerstone of how this fight goes. Frieren doesn’t have a flashback of friends and get a ridiculous boost in power. She doesn’t scream about protecting her friends and suddenly start winning. It’s not revealed that she actually has a demon inside her that will just help her win any and every fight. She’s got a win condition and a solid strategy with a good support partner. We the viewers know what they have to do, but have no idea how they’re gonna do it.
