@dark.history.desk: The Minamata Poisoning ******************** There is a current wave of lawsuits stemming from the 2009 Minamata Disease Special Measures Law. The new law provided one-time payments to victims to determine eligibility, but used strict criteria such as living in specific zones or being born by a certain date. Many victims lived just outside the designated zones or developed symptoms later in life, leading the government and Chisso to deny their claims. So far, over 90 billion yen (over 600 million USD) has been paid out in compensation, with many cases still in process. #historyfacts #minamata #poisoning
