Steve :
This duet has been examined over and over by many and the comments are interesting, and lucid. Some people spoke about different technical aspects and some spoke on emotion only. In my humble opinion, both rapped about deep, interesting, intuitive mindsets. The BOTH demonstrated why they are considered to be the greatest. However, I van take emotion and bias out of the equation and say that this song is magnificent. Both of the emcees displayed their respective genius. Em has always enunciated lyrics in a combative, emotional fashion. His subject matter shows his inner thoughts and beliefs. Jay displays the storytelling ability as well as messages that allow the listener to put themselves in his experience and situations that are very relatable. They both were awesome. But another observation is anytime a rapper displays some sort of greatness, it is compared to Jay Z and his omnipotent status. So some people are so happy when a rapper can perform on a high level, that they automatically believe the rapper was " better". In most cases , the fans, the producers, the artists and most importantly, the peers, believe that Jay Z is the greatest. The recent "hate" attached to Jay is absolutely ridiculous, but any good or impressive exhibition of good rapping will be deemed to be better. This is not to take away from Em or Nas or Kendrick or J Cole, or Kanye, or Drake, or Lil Wayne, or Scarface. Take a listen and try and review the magnificence of Jay's catalog and it will be discovered that his lyrics need to be decoded and studied for the incredible messages , storytelling, flow and intricate double and triple entendres. This, after 30 years of creating greatness with NO slip ups.
