Same. After I graduated, my parents didn’t ask anything from me. Mind you, we’re not rich—sakto lang sa buhay. But they have enough for themselves, which is why I can spoil myself with travel and personal luho. Our parents don’t need to be rich, just independent enough not to put financial pressure on you while you’re still building yourself. And in return, I also treat them sometimes or buy things for them, without them even asking. Kaya kahit hindi kami mayaman, super thankful ako for my hardworking parents!

As a friend of Melan and a working student to support myself and give what I can to my parents, this isn’t insensitive. Yes we might feel a little jealous because not all were given the opportunity to live like this but let’s not forget that they do not owe us any explanation or any apologies, if they’re able to live like this then YES they are lucky. BUT that’s their lives, what we can do is use this as a motivation to strive harder so our future children would not experience how hard it is to live life. 😊

This is not insensitive. This is above and beyond parenting. An inspiration for new parents to cut all the trauma and do better. Hindi lang to tungkol sa pera. Kasama na dito yung pag putol sa trauma, guilt-tripping, at glorifying resiliency. Yung mag anak lang pag handa. Yung hindi pag pasa ng responsibilidad na hindi naman dapat sakanila.
