Assuming it did just turn green, some lights have demand based sensors so it may be the other direction is overloaded, although the loops in the road are usually diamond where as these are square which suggests it is more likely vehicle actuation. Even on VA if a vehicle hasn’t got to the loop in time they will allow it to move on. This is why it is important not to leave a big gap to the car in front on approach to signals.

Many reasons for this. Sometimes it's using a sensor to minimise how long a light is red for others, and sometimes you're the minor road and it's important for this to be short to stop traffic on a more busy route

I really don't understand the problem. These are flow based so if no vehicles waiting it will change the sequence. you weren't there and nor was the bus. them changing to red shouldn't have been unexpected

Some lights have sensors on them that detect traffic, you may have been too far for it to see you

The sensors are set up to detect cars not cyclists. Can be frustrating. Perhaps a reason some cyclists go through on red

Bus wasn’t close enough for it to pick up and stay green for it and nothing coming from your direction, people would moan if it stayed green for too long and didn’t let the crossing traffic through 🤷🏻♂️
