Mastering Your Iron Contact: The "Low Point" Secret ⛳ Ever wonder why some iron shots feel like hitting a brick wall while others feel like butter? The difference is hidden in the low point of your swing. If you're struggling with consistency, this simple visual might be the breakthrough you need. ❌ The "Chunk": Hitting Behind the Ball When you hit the ground before the ball (as shown on the left), you're losing all your power to the dirt. This "fat" shot happens because the lowest point of your swing arc is occurring behind the ball. Instead of a soaring shot, you get a heavy thud, a face full of grass, and a ball that barely moves. ✅ The "Pure" Strike: Ball-First Contact To get that crisp, professional sound, you want the clubhead to make contact with the ball while it is still descending. As shown on the right, the ideal sequence is: Strike the Ball Strike the Turf (creating a divot ahead of where the ball was sitting) By moving the low point of your swing slightly forward, you compress the ball against the clubface, resulting in more distance, better spin, and much more control. How to Fix Your Strike Today Target the Front: Don't look at the back of the ball. Focus your eyes on the front edge or a spot of grass an inch in front of it. Stop the "Scoop": Don't try to help the ball into the air. Trust the loft of your club to do the lifting for you. Shift Your Weight: Ensure your weight is moving toward your lead side through impact to naturally move your swing's low point forward. Pro Tip: A "good" divot should always start on the target side of your ball, never behind it. Next time you're practicing, listen for that "click" before the "thump." Once you master ball-first contact, you'll transform your iron play from frustrating to formidable! 🔥 #golflife #golfer #golfclub #golfing #golfdrills
