The title "Hariputirwe" (It Cannot Be Hidden) is inspired by the Shona proverb "Rinemanyanga hariputirwe", which literally means "that which has horns cannot be covered."  Figuratively, the proverb conveys the idea that the truth cannot remain concealed forever; sooner or later, it will come to light regardless of attempts to hide it. In the song, Oliver Mtukudzi delivers a powerful social commentary, warning against secretive wrongdoing. He stresses that actions committed in private, no matter how carefully concealed, will eventually be exposed and become the subject of public discussion and scrutiny. To broaden the song's appeal and reinforce its message across different communities, Mtukudzi weaves together Shona, English, and Ndebele/Zulu expressions. He emphasizes the inevitability of exposure by declaring that even the deaf will hear about one's deeds ("Imbebebe ziyakhuzwa") and the blind will come to see them ("Iziphofu ziyakubona").
