SISTER DREAMER LAUREN HALSEY’S ARCHITECTURAL ODE TO THA SURGE N SPLURGE OF SOUTH CENTRAL LOS ANGELES by LAUREN HALSEY at 1810 W. 76th St. Los Angeles, CA 90047 Lauren Halsey created a new sculpture park in South Central Los Angeles called sister dreamer lauren halsey’s architectural ode to tha surge n splurge of south central Los Angeles. It sits at the corner of Western Avenue and 76th Street. The park turns three lots into an open space that honors the neighborhood where the artist and her family have lived for many years. It mixes Afrofuturist ideas with ancient Egyptian shapes. You will see eight tall pillars about 22 feet high. These pillars show portraits of local heroes and community leaders. There are also sphinx sculptures, water features, benches, native plants, fruit and vegetable gardens, and places to gather. The park works as both public art and a community hub. It connects to Halseys nonprofit Summaeverythang Community Center. It will offer free events such as film screenings, health and wellness events, community-centric celebrations, jazz nights, sport activations, lecture series, tutoring, and youth programs. The goal is a place where everyone can enjoy it without cost. The park opened March 14, 2026. It’s open from Wednesday to Sunday, sunrise to sunset, through September 2027.
