I have a friend who’s renting a two bed apartment with roommates his rent is 1500 a month meanwhile my mortgage on my house is 800 a month.

Think of it this way say your rent is $1500 a month OK and you pay that for 12 months every year for the rest of your life that’s a lot of money. Why not take that money and put it towards your own house and something that’s yours instead of putting it in someone else’s pocket.

Of course, you gotta be careful what you buy. My 1960 rental house we had to put a drainfield in it last year $5k and we’re about to have to do a well which is gonna be $12k so all of the profits from the rental or out the window the past two years, but the mortgage is still be paid and we’re gaining equity so I don’t mind paying out-of-pocket for repairs that ultimately will help get full value out of the property if I want to sell.
