@james.d.gurps: Please allow beam clashes/beam struggles for your GURPS players. That aside, there’s something I’d like to talk about. Combat shouldn’t be separate from roleplay! The Disadvantage system is my favorite part of GURPS. You can choose to take traits which influence/restrict roleplay and character abilities. In addition to awarding extra character points, it makes your characters more interesting! For example, Code of Honor and variants of Pacifism influence how you conduct yourself in combat. However, you don’t need to stop there! The way your character fights can say so much about them, and your actions in combat matter just as much as your actions in social encounters. BBEG was obsessed with my character (whole different story) and desperately wanted to see a specific move during the battle. I hadn’t used that move in several sessions cause I had better stuff now, but I decided it would be in character to hit the “Just this once” and use it. We won and I use the character for another campaign, character has now sworn off using that move because “no one else is worthy of it”

I’m playing as an Echo Fighter in D&D5e that doesn’t actually attack. Mechanically, nothing’s really changed. But my Echo does all the tracking and blocking for me.

This is why im a home brew dm that polished and fixed alot of the combat in dnd and made it so its possible for a persons personality and character to be translated in the way they fight and stances they take. A fighter saved a political encounter gone horribly wrong via dice rolls as the stsnce he took for the duel was his main stance and combat style which he in his backstory was a retired soldier and doing it and in his armor (he wasnt in armor for the political meeting) he was recognised as a big deal back in the day and respected. And it gave them a second chance to talk politicly and that second chance saved it. That is onw thing i wish dnd had more of with martial characters and just how special each style is made pwrson to person. Its called martial arts for a reason its art. Its always uniquly beautiful from person to person. I wanted this in my world so i made the human arts system (not a real posted system just named it this now tbh)

oh, I always role-play the character even in combat. her entire strategy is to intimidate her opposition by mimicking them. works great in the cosmere ttrpg.

i play a wildfire druid kobold who wants to be a dragon really bad so all his spells are fire spells and other spells are flavored as fire spells. not optimal at all but makes for really fun utility and story moments
