love this video and also just want to add that the past tense of “cost” is “cost” and not “costed” ❤️

and may I present a third option. I belong to an art association. it is a Non-profit group of artists. We do have a gallery. The art in that gallery is for sale. But there is a heavy emphasis and focus on education. I get so excited when anyone comes by with questions. I'm the gallery director there currently.

My wife and I vacationed around museums and restaurants. One of my favorite experiences was walking in NYC and deciding to check out a gallery. The door was locked. However, we got buzzed in. It was like our own private museum. We were interested in a $175,000 Sisley, but fortunately the color would have clashed with the couch. 😁

I don't know about art schools in the US but here in Germany they have regular exhibition of thier students and some have a online shop where you can buy art 40-6000 EUR. And some really descent prices for 150-250 EUR. The students use the selling of these to buy knew material to do more art

So what I do is follow people who post their art on social media and comment enthusiastically on stuff I like, especially if the post doesn't have a lot of comments\attention. And I try to get some specifics in there about what made me like it. It costs zero money, it helps them with the algorithm, and when you do that for a small creator I can guarantee you've made their day

Here’s another way to support artists—In my town, an I suspect in most towns, there are art collectives, open studio days, and businesses that sell work by local artists. I’ve been able to buy cool work by local artists for $20-$300. (I have more money than I did when I was younger so I can pay more for art.) I love that all the art hanging in my home is by people I’ve actually met.

You also see many artists streaming on Twitch and platforms like that and they often get supported by subscriptions there. Modern day patrons.

Interesting distinction! In the UK, we have both types, but they all tend to get called Art Galleries. For example, the National Gallery in London is what you'd likely describe as an Art Museum, but they've put "Gallery" right there in its name!

If you become a member of your local art museum, you can check to see if you get reciprocal entry (reduced or even free entry!) at other art museums in the area that are in the same network. It’s a great way to see new art!

the tattoo studio I frequent is also part of a local art collective with local pieces for sale. Which honestly makes total sense. Obviously, if customers are already paying for art on their body 😁

Also the Smithsonian has free museum day! It’s how I’ve found a lot of smaller museums I wouldn’t necessarily have found on my own
