They hang around our school and knock on the windows to the delight of the children. One year recently, our schoolyard pair had a little one and that was very exciting.

Additional facts: 1) Sandhill crane calls were used to generate some of the dinosaur calls in Jurassic park. 2) Sandhill cranes get their red coloration by preening iron-rich mud through their feathers in the spring/summer.

Yep we have the year round ones where I am in Florida, and boy are their babies adorable. The adults here are also very brave and unconcerned about people.
