My manager trained me to replace her then she moved away and my company only wanted to give me a 5% raise to be manager and I turned it down, I wanted 25% increase. And they spent 2 years replacing managers

I agree with the concept. However it’s not used. I worked at a company for 3 years. I worked my butt off. I took work home to run the numbers to find ways to die my job better. I then went and learned the job of the guy behind me and in front of me (figure of speech). Then I took those skills and became part of a failing team (I moved there from the successful team to challenge myself). After a year I asked to move and my boss said that I was to good at making the failing team successful that it would be stupid for him to let me go anywhere. I quit and have never devoted myself to anything again. That was in 2010.

hes right but sadly 9.5 times out of 10, once you have trained your replacement, you just made yourself redundant and the replacement is essential expensive because they are now doing your job on their same money

Nonsense. My manager wants me to train someone so SHE can be promoted ahead of me whilst we also hired externally rather than promote me (my numbers are higher than anyone elses since I joined)

I worked for a company once which only promoted internally was a solid approach because the managers could actually do the roles they were managing and the whole vibe was push your manager higher and you could climb with them
