I think Novak could improve the serve disguise, as Carlos was able to read it at the Australian Open final. Make sure the tosses are identical. And for Novak to increase the speed of his second serve or add more spin for a higher bounce to prevent Carlos from dictating. Novak could take the ball earlier to deny Carlos time to use his powerful forehand. Take the ball earlier and use a shorter pass to control the placement. He needs to make Carlos play on his terms. Speed variation to disrupt Carlos. Take the ball earlier to neutralise the spin. Use a low-skidding slice to prevent Carlos from generating spin. Make Carlos hit from an uncomfortable position. And Novak needed to shorten points. I would have liked Novao to change the height and vary the depth, for example, by using some shortened slices or high-looping balls. If you look at the AO, there were tactical moves Novak could have made differently, neutralise Carlos’s power by absorbing pace and make Carlos overhit. Novak needed to prevent being forced into defensive behind-the baseline rallies.
