@thebrianaquart: There’s a conversation from early in Why I Left that I still carry with me. Stephen A. Hart asked me about it during Episode 100. I interviewed Joan Pons Laplana, a nurse in London, originally from Spain. In the middle of the conversation, he shared something I wasn’t expecting. He had been dealing with suicidal thoughts. Because he was carrying so much from the pandemic, and pretending he wasn’t. He said something I haven’t forgotten: “If I had gotten help earlier, I would have still been a nurse today.” That stayed with me. But what happened after changed how I think about my platform. Someone reached out to me. They said 'thank you,' because they thought they were the only one. The only one struggling. The only one trying to hold it together. And that’s when it clicked. You can’t separate leaving a job from mental health. And once you realize people are listening, really listening, there’s a responsibility that comes with that. So if you needed this reminder today: You’re not the only one. And if you’re struggling, please don’t sit with it alone. There are people and resources out there ready to support you.
