whoever invented the monorail train was an absolute genius a normal train would need to rails to stay upright put an entire rain on a single rail it sounds impossible the whole thing should immediate tip over without anyway to stay Ballance yet over a hundred years ago engineers built a train that could do exactly that even while standing still so how is that possible the secret was hidden inside the train instead of relying of extra support wheels the vehicle contained a giant spinning wheel rotating at extremely high speed the giant wheel was actually a device called the gyroscope and it was the key for keeping the train up right but why would a spinning wheel stop a multi ton train from falling over the answer lies in a property called gyroscopic stability once a heavy wheel is spinning rapidly it strongly resists changes to it's orientation as the train began to leans on once side the spinning gyroscope generated forces that pushed back against the tipping motion helping keep the entire train balanced above the rail the result looked unbelievable passengers could ride inside while the train reminded upright on a single track with no visible support but despite working remarkably well the system was expensive mechanically complex and needed a massive gyroscope in every carriage making conventional railings a much simpler solution
