Seized Crank Gear Removal. • We continue the repair of a second-generation Renault Trafic equipped with the 1.9 dCi F9Q diesel engine. In the previous episode, we discovered a highly unusual failure - completely broken mounting brackets for the high-pressure fuel pump, leaving the pump held in place by improvised supports. • In this part, we begin preparing the engine for reassembly. Before installing the new brackets and completing the repair, we need to restore and service several important timing system components. • The first task is replacing the front crankshaft seal. On F9Q engines, the crankshaft timing gear often becomes seized due to corrosion and long-term exposure to heat and moisture. In many cases, removing the gear can be extremely difficult. • To remove the gear safely, we use a dedicated puller tool designed specifically for this type of component. The old crankshaft seal is also removed using a specialized seal puller hook. • When installing the new seal, it is extremely important not to damage the sealing lip. In this video, I demonstrate a simple guide sleeve that can be made from an ordinary plastic bottle. This method helps the seal slide over the crankshaft surface safely during installation. • Afterward, we thoroughly clean all mounting surfaces, timing gears, and related components.
