ex-geek squad here. Unfortunately my assumption is they weren't able to figure out how to get it to read with the drive still in the casing and decided the solution to the drive not reading is to send it for data recovery which has 3 levels of work and can cost insane amounts of money depending on the level it needs.

Question is this true I went into an apple shop to change my battery on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and they said to me they have to order a screen to because it will crack when changing the battery that is fine for me because I need to change it anyways but they said they will give it for free because it will break when I’m just paying for the battery

External drive manufacturers removing the sata connectors and going all in with these crappy prone to fail pcb boards is why I buy laptop drives and install them in separate enclosures myself.
