He was just playing in the sand. Happy. Content. Minding his own little world. Another child came over — much older, curious and just watching him at first. And then, in a split second, before we could react, he grabbed Jac’s face and ripped off all of his tube tapes… pulling the feeding tube straight out. We know that Jac’s tube and tape can be interesting for children to look at — it’s different, and kids are naturally curious. We understand that. But this could have, and should have, been prevented. Jac didn’t do anything wrong. He didn’t even understand what was happening. One moment he was just enjoying the sand, the next he was crying in pain, frightened and confused. We had to come home and reinsert the tube — this time into the other nostril because the cheek it was on had become too sore and red from where it had been ripped away. It was traumatic — not just physically, but emotionally, for all of us. He’s still the one left unsettled. Still the one hurting. And he didn’t cause any of it. Please know this isn’t about blame. It’s about awareness. Children like Jac are vulnerable. They can’t protect themselves. They don’t always understand. So for their sake, supervision matters more than ever. #medicalmum #jacsjourney #ngtube
