I was raised by my Grandmother who raised me to work hard and work for everything I had. I worked with all of my children. I had three girls under three at one point and worked 12 hours shifts at a hospital and then come home to take care of them. I worked while pregnant with Lacey, I went back to work after spending 4 months home with her. Then something drastic happened. Lacey was diagnosed with a rare disease and started rapidly declining. She got admitted to the children’s hospital of Philadelphia which is 2.5 hours away from our home and My husband and I lost our jobs while caring for her at bedside. We didn’t qualify for FMLA because my husband just started a new job months prior and I was only working PRN at the time. As a mom, all you want is to provide for your children to make sure they have everything they need. Right now, not being able to do that the way I want to is heartbreaking. The guilt is overwhelming, even though I know choosing my daughter’s health was never the wrong decision. When your child is fighting for their health, your entire world stops. Being by Lacey’s side in the hospital meant losing my job, and while I would make that same choice a thousand times over, it has left us in a difficult place. I was so hesitant about making a go fund me because the internet can be cruel. I am so scared of how people may judge, and not understand because they don’t know bu that behind every family with a child fighting a medical battle is a parent trying their absolute best. They don’t see the daily struggle, The hospital visits The financial stress The advocacy The tears The fear The weight of feeling like your failing as a parent when your trying your hardest to stay afloat for your child. Even though this isn’t the post I wanted to make, even though I never wanted to ask for help I know my daughters deserve a Mother who can have a peice of mind that I’ll be able to provide for them during this challenging time.
