@onlyslaggin: Mastering Your BBQ (Kamado Joe) Starts With Fire & Air Lighting your Kamado Joe properly and controlling temperature isn’t complicated… but it is the difference between average BBQ and next-level cooking. Getting consistent results on your Kamado Joe isn’t about luck… it’s about understanding the fundamentals. And it all starts with the fire triangle: Heat Oxygen Fuel For me, it all comes down to airflow. Open it up and you’ll get a hot, fast burn. Choke it down and you’re into low-and-slow territory. Simple in theory… but getting it right consistently is where the skill comes in. Top & bottom vents = full control More air = higher temps Less air = steady, low heat Start with a clean firebox, good quality lumpwood, and don’t rush it. Let the fire build naturally, give your grill time to stabilise, and you’ll have full control before the food even hits the grill. Most people get caught out by overshooting temps early on. Be patient and bring it up slowly. Is this better than say just sparking up a gas bbq and cracking on with it in 10 mins? I get that there is something ‘primitive’ with building a fire, but would you see only marginal gains with the KJ, vs the convenience of gas? Cheers
