If, however, I am farang, and I want to learn the proper words, please use ra rua. I asked a Thai friend once how to say “shoes”, and he told me “long tao”! I found out later that it was “rong tao”. I prefer learning the correct words.

I’m learning Thai, and when I said mâi-bpen-lai instead of rai my teacher asked me if I should be in a beginner class, because I already said things like locals do ☺️

As a Thai, I usually pronounce ร as ร but not emphasize it too much. So when I speak fast, it might sound like ล sometimes but it’s actually ร.

I had a conversation with my parents (that still say pathakhan for restaurants) and they don't believe that the letter for bottle/khuat is not used anymore. So ข is still used?

My colleagues, friends, and ole lady literally can not hear the difference between the L and R sound. They seem to be used randomly in place of the ร but always word specific. For example my girlfriend uses the r when saying it is hot (ron) but uses the l when say what (Aria) everytime BUT my colleague is the opposite l for ron and r for aria. I find it super interesting.
