My daughter got 2000 from United in credits a few months ago and she didn’t have to bid. They kept raising the price and she took it. Happened again on her next flight but she couldn’t take it because she had to get home.

There was 1 time they were offering $1500 for people to go on a different flight, but unfortunately we couldn't take it because we would've missed our connecting flight.

I was booked in economy on American and had to change my flights to a few days later. I looked up the cost to change my daughter and I and it was going to be about $75 per person more. Ok cool. I went to actually change the tickets and it told me I could move to first class for $1.60 total for both of us for both flights. Obviously I did it.

I was traveling home on a Sunday a few years ago with zero urgency in my schedule. I voluntarily bumped myself 3 times that day and wound up with lots of travel credit.

I'll always consider it if my schedule is flexible. Just like I'll always consider swapping seats with another passenger if they offer me enough money. Make it worth my while.

American offered $1500 in travel credits each for three of us to be bumped off a flight from Miami to Nashville. We took it and we’re put on a flight from Miami to Dallas connecting to Nashville. Turns out the direct flight was delayed. We arrived in Nashville earlier than we would have flying nonstop.
