Donnie Darko follows the story of a troubled teenager named Donnie Darko, who lives in a small town in Virginia during October 1988. Donnie then understands what he must do. Using his new understanding of time travel and supernatural powers, he creates a vortex in the sky and sends the jet engine back through time to the exact moment before the story began. In the final scene, the timeline resets. Donnie stays in his room instead of leaving the house, and the jet engine crashes onto him, killing him instantly. Because Donnie sacrificed himself, the Tangent Universe collapses safely, and the normal world is restored.
