@stevethevampireslayer: while clark is looking back at lana fondly, he is also clearly closing that chapter on his life. he takes her photo out of his wallet, where you keep your current loved ones, and puts her in a scrapbook, where you keep memories. him putting her in a scrap book shows she is now only a nice memory, and he is ready and committed to beginning the rest of his life with lois. hence lois immediately coming in once he closes his scrapbook, to which he is closing the chapter on lana. this is not a scene that reinforces lois as a “second choice” but rather a scene to reinforce that clark is moving on from lana and ready to be with lois. obviously lana left a lasting impact on him, because most relationships do, like it or not. however, that does not mean she is his soulmate, that clark didn’t get over lana, or that he loves lois any less. while they may have been forced apart, clark still chooses to move on, he chooses to not keep pursuing lana. in subsequent seasons, clark does not go after ways to rid lana of kryptonite. he leaves her be, lets her use her abilities to help people. he chooses to close that chapter on lana and begin a new one with lois. sure technically you can interpret the scene how you want, but when the writers’ intention is so blatant in a scene … #clarkkent #loislane #clois #smallville #lanalangsmallville clois, smallville, scene analysis, clark kent, lois lane, smallville season 9, 2000s, 2000s television, 2000s tv, lana lang, tv show analysis, television analysis, smallville edit, superman.
