I think every duplicate Dupli-Kate creates is mentally connected to her, so when one dies, she feels it. If a large number of them die quickly, it would overwhelm her. On the other hand, Multi-Paul seems different his duplicates are more independent, so when they die, it doesn’t affect him in the same way since they’re not as directly connected to his main consciousness.
