Tip from a fellow patio gardener - tomatoes need LOTS of sun (all day). Since you have black plastic pots, they may need to be watered twice on really hot days. Mix plant food/fertilizer and worm castings in your soil to help growth

My balcony garden: peonies, snacking peppers, strawberries, honeyberries, lavender, camellia. The list is longer than I wish to type 😂 my top tip for container growing: utilise sticks and unbleached cardboard and rip it up, use it when you’re topping up with soil and you’ll find that you use less soil than if you were to just buy compost. Also get a liquid tomato feed, it’s good for sooo many plants!

Frankly, gardening is a “practice makes perfect” activity. Starting now means when you DO step into those dreams of hone ownership, you’ll have a more solid foundation of gardening knowledge to pull from! Especially since home ownership is a whole beast of firsts all on its own.

To all my friends on a budget, 5 gallon buckets will be your best friend. I started out using free ones from my serving job. Our pickle buckets and fry buckets, drill holes and dont use just top soil, layer with branches leaves cardboard bits compost and more. Save money and space using this method and some plants prefer buckets

TIP: Water tomatoes from the base because they are the most dramatic vegetable, and will get diseases from overhead watering.
