Admete (pronounced Ad-met-A) is a FantasyWire stainless steel fairy with a copper dress enjoying the feeling of the wind. The dress is made from dozens of hand made individual copper leaves, which are polished on the dress lining side and verdigris on the outside. The dress has then been lacquered to make it weather proof and suitable for outdoors. When designing Admete, I wanted to capture a particular emotion and feeling: The feeling you get when your alone, on top of a hill enjoying the wind as it envelops you. That noise and the sensation that leaves you no choice other than to smile and live. I knew when I started that she would quite a challenge to make. That dress probably took longer than making the fairy herself, but it was worth it. I wanted to show the contrast of the inside and outside of the dress which reflects her personalty: She glows on the inside, but hides it from the world if it wasn’t for the wind. I’ve agonised over her name since I started making her. The dress is so dominant in this fairy sculpture, and I searched for names that were related to dresses and dress making, but dressmaking is not what this fairy is about. Admete is ancient greek and means untamed and unbroken. Don’t be mistaken into thinking, wild or feral. Admete is very intelligent and fully in control. She simply lives her life on her terms, free from the petty concerns of what others think.
