Respectfully, this is a wrong take. I had to see multiple different doctors growing up before I was properly diagnosed, but i also know people that were lucky enough to get an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment after their first dr visit. It very much depends on the doctor, person and illness

I was diagnosed on my first appt with ADHD. He asked me why I thought I had it. All the coping mechanisms I utilize. Then I received a very low dose of Adderall. It made me feel like a zombie. I last 30 days and stopped using it. I’m still trying to figure myself out and I always felt like I have OCD. But I never wanted to go back after that. Your page has helped me a ton.

I had a psychiatrist who refused to test me because he said I probably do have it but I "didn't need another label." Once he left the practice, it took me a few sessions to feel comfortable to ask for an evaluation but ultimately decided to and I told him I felt I did need a label to understand my body plus as a recreation therapist I know that there are some coping skills for anxiety that are contraindicated for OCD such as reassurance.

The challenge is that in a very broken system, patients are often desperate for any change, and waiting for three to four sessions isn’t realistic. The entire system has to change for this to work.
