There is more than enough local compute already that once LLMs like Qwen3.5 2B reach production everyone’s PCs can and will be a means to achieving their own research. Future open models are only going to be faster and lighter

AI is Infrastructure - like railroads and highways. Compute allocation will be a political issue but also an issue of deep public interest. We should be paying attention.

I respect the line of thought, however so as long as the US companies/US dollar is doing well im not sure how political a problem it will be. My phd student mentor asked a big name google employee whether they do some complicated dynamic programming when they refresh or move memory. And the dude just goes: “no we just throw money at the problem”.

On second thought and reflection, I think you are right that how we democratize compute will be important. I think a lot of it will have to do with how we take our education and productive capacity back into own two hands
