@gquerrard: When humanity feels collective pressure, whether by political subjugation, spiritual suppression, or the ebb and flows of the natural world…. The act of creation becomes both the medicine and the reckoning. In this time of great global upheaval, some of the most significant art will be created and used many generations from now as a documentation of this time. Of how people suffered. Of how people overcame. Of how people loved each other. This weekend I have the immense privilege of attending the @rootedinrhythm.co Cultural Exchange experience in New Orleans along side talented creators, visionaries, and thinkers from the Virgin Islands, Jamaica, and of course the incredible city of New Orleans. Being in New Orleans underscores for me how culturally connected we are… both in the tangibilities of architecture and music… as well as the intangibilities of values and spiritual traditions. It also reminds me of how important the work of cultural preservation is. How vital it is to keep moving forward, with the lessons of our ancestral wisdom. How courageous it is to keep the sacred pieces of us that aren’t always accepted by everyone else. I’ll have some more videos from this trip coming over the next few days so stay tuned ❤️
