A starter event? It’s the third one... And now what? What’s the plan? Another one in June? Also on a Saturday? Like what’s the plan?

I went to a small town one and there was a lady getting people to sign a petition to help preserve the local environment. There was also a mutual aid stand selling stickers. THIS EVENT WAS GENUINELY HELPFUL!!

At the Boston No Kings there were at least 30 booths set up where people interacted all day with local organizations. People were donating, signing up to volunteer or work on political campaigns, getting organized, planning further actions, and learning about organizations they wouldn’t have otherwise known about.

also, people have been feeling a lot of fatigue - if it lifts spirits and refills someone's battery to be part of a group, then it did do something

if it was useless, maybe look inward and consider why you didn't use it as an opportunity to meet other people, learn about local orgs, or why listening to speakers seemed like a waste of your time.

I'm in a red state, not a lot of blue around me. being able to finally be surrounded by community made me feel truly hopeful and emotional. no, it is not a revolution - not yet. but this is one of the first steps to gain attention, connect people, build community and support, so we can keep going to the next steps!

Knowing you aren’t alone was worth it. In my daily, it feels like most people are sticking their heads in the sand so to know others are paying attention was valuable

Also it's during primary season, this is motivation to go to the polls, seeing you're not alone is a big fucking deal. Like absolutely there's so much more to be done and absolutely voting alone won't get us out of this, but it's not the nothing people want it to be

Like Rachel cohen talks about a lot— we have to increase our risk tolerance. For some people, going to a protest IS risky. Getting them there is the first step to connecting them to the NEXT STEPS.
