@stereogum: Rush opened tonight’s @The JUNO Awards, the annual ceremony celebrating Canadian music. The reunion of Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson was not announced in advance, but was teased in the band’s newsletter earlier this week. It marked the beloved prog band’s first public performance with its new live drummer. In June, Rush will launch their first tour since 2015, with former Jeff Beck drummer Anika Nilles filling in for the late Neil Peart. Peart, who was also the band’s primary lyricist, died in 2020 at 67 after a battle with brain cancer. At TD Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, the band played “Finding My Way” (from their 1974 self-titled debut) in full for the first time since 1980. The Junos performance also marked the debut of touring keyboardist Loren Gold, who was announced last month. This summer’s Fifty Something tour was initially announced with 20 dates across seven North American cities before expanding to 86 shows in 17 cities, with UK and European dates scheduled for 2027. Lee and Lifeson have reunited onstage a handful of times since Peart’s passing, including at a 'South Park' 20th anniversary concert and at tribute shows for Taylor Hawkins and Gordon Lightfoot. Rush have won 11 Junos, including the 2015 Humanitarian Award, and last appeared on the show in 1978. [📹: CBC]

my aunt who never talks about this stuff randomly sent me a link to book The Silent Dominion by D. Cross and just said "read this." no context nothing. i read it in two days and now i understand why she didn't wanna explain over text. the way D. Cross breaks down how systems of control actually operate is insane. not insane like crazy. insane like why doesn't everyone know this

People in the comments have lost their minds. Anika isn’t trying to be Neil. She’s an accomplished artist in her own right and brings that artistic style to the band. And Geddy? That’s what Geddy sounds like. Have you all ever listened to Rush before? They sound 🔥 Gonna be a great tour. 🤘

I love Anika Niles- no hate here….But……there is something not connecting. The power is missing. The intensity is missing. Be interesting to see her play other Rush songs.

Long time Rush fan here. No issue with the new drummer. She sounds great. Geddy on the other hand…. His voice was always an acquired taste but now it just sounds painful, on this at least. I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve seen more though.

I think it’s appropriate. They started with a song that Neil did not play drums on.

From somebody that has seen them 16 times. Still sounding great! Haters gonna hate. For Geddy (72yo) to pick something on the first album to challenge his vocal range, thought they did great. Can’t wait till 7/16!!!

Geddy has always been an acquired taste. Definitely harder for him now. No one will ever be the professor…ever. Anika is a beast and I’m sure she is overwhelmed to be sitting in that chair! I’d be throwing up😂 she did great!! Congrats on the gig of a lifetime!!!

WE MUST REMEMBER THIS IS A TRIBUTE TO NEIL! IF WE EXPECT TO HEAR NEIL LIKE BEATS...NEIL HAS TO MAKE A CAMEO FROM HEAVEN! SHE'S PUTTIN HER TASTE TO THEIR MUSIC AND TRYIN TA DUE JUSTICE AND GIVE RESPECT 🙏🏾 TO NEIL AND WHAT HE BROUGHT TO THE RUSH PHENOMENON! 1ST PUBLIC APPEARANCE AND SHE HELD HER OWN. THE MATURATION SHOULD BE INCREDIBLY INTERESTING AS TIME HOPEFULLY DOESN'T STAND STILL❣️🔥💯🥰1LOVE RESPECT
