Dee Rees’s “Mudbound” is a film about this and it is *so* good and *so* sad and way too real. It is a hard watch so protect yourselves, but a very well made film. I love Dee’s work in general.

My grandfather served in the Vietnam War. He came home to Norfolk in his dress uniform and defended a Black man being beaten by a cop after already being handcuffed. He told the cop to stop & the cop raised his baton to hit my grandfather. My grandfather stopped & grabbed it. 😩

My great great uncle fought in WWI. He came home Auburn, Alabama and bought a car and they burned down his home. He move Gary, Indiana after that.
