@untoldstoryzzz: Desmond Doss was a U.S. Army soldier and combat medic during World War He is best known for his extraordinary bravery during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. Doss was a devout Seventh-day Adventist Church member, which meant he refused to carry or use a weapon. Because of this, he served as a medic rather than a frontline combat soldier. Despite facing ridicule and pressure from fellow soldiers early on, he stuck firmly to his beliefs. His most famous actions took place during the Battle of Okinawa, especially at a dangerous area known as Hacksaw Ridge. While under heavy enemy fire, Doss repeatedly risked his life to rescue wounded soldiers. He is credited with saving about 75 men by lowering them down a cliff one by one, all without ever carrying a weapon. For his heroism, Doss became the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor, the highest military award in the United States.
