Lighter fluid is what I use. years ago cleaning, I learned this trick from a dry cleaner. I dab a small amount to the stained area and then I toss the item straight into the wash with rest of my laundry and wash it like normal. I do not let it soak or sit because it doesn’t need to. I’ve never had it ruin anything. Remember synthetics are plastic base and lighter fluid is a strong solvent so it can weaken fibers, another reason why I wash right after. Demi and cotton items it can sit on longer although it does not need to. Why it works: Lighter fluid works on grease stains because of the simple chemistry rule: “like dissolves like.” Most grease (like cooking oil, motor oil, or body oils) is made of nonpolar molecules—they don’t mix with water. Lighter fluid (usually made of hydrocarbons like naphtha or butane) is also nonpolar. So when you apply lighter fluid It dissolves the grease because they're chemically similar. It breaks the bond between the grease and the fabric surface. The grease gets lifted and can then be wiped or washed away.
