This French bistro hidden in the backstreets of Fitzroy does a solid $35 steak night! 🥩 Bistro X is a modern bistro located within the @The StandardX Melbourne hotel, on Fitzroy Street, Fitzroy. The kitchen is led by Executive Chef @benjohnchef (ex-Vue de Monde, Pure South Dining, Omnia), the menu features classic French techniques with a Melbourne touch, focusing on hyper seasonal produce and quality local ingredients.  We visited on a Tuesday night for their Wagyu Steak & Frites Night, where for $35 you get steak, fries, salad and peppercorn sauce. ⭐️ Hawkes Farm potato rosti, yellowfin tuna - pretty much the perfect bite. Also Hawkes Farm potatoes are the GOAT.
✔️ “Chicko roll” - so innovative. You actually get that classic beefy Chicko Roll flavour from the sauce and tallow.
✔️ Wagyu rump steak, chips, salad, peppercorn sauce - tender and well rested with a great spicy peppercorn sauce. Personally I would’ve preferred the sauce on the side but that’s on me for not asking.
✔️ Wagyu burger, X rated sauce, maple bacon, fries - delicious burger. The brisket and chuck patty had a nice caramelisation and the bun was super soft. The maple bacon added quite a lot of sweetness, maybe slightly too much?
✔️ Mussels, Gascony butter, sourdough - not a huge amount of mussels and a few hadn’t opened (3 out of 12) but I really liked the flavours here.
✔️ Half roast chicken, onions, black garlic - served with a mole inspired sauce. The chicken itself was really moist and flavourful, although there wasn’t much crispy skin - which may be intentional? ✔️ Seasonal pavlova - the Earl Grey flavour was a great touch!
⭐️ Apple rhubarb crumble - an unbelievably good crumble. 10/10. Everything felt really well executed, thoughtful and exciting to eat, while still feeling relaxed and approachable rather than overly fine dining.
