What do you think? The minimum wage in Charlotte is $7 an hour. I make $19 an hour—with my education, license, and experience. That’s really great: $19 an hour. 40 hours a week. $760 a week—minus taxes—comes to $532; times four, that’s $2,128.😅 But since my hourly wage is high, my boss cuts my hours so he doesn't have to pay me so much. Consequently, I often don't even end up making that amount. There is no sick leave. No health insurance. No paid vacation. Oh, and right—we can't get a mortgage either, because our income is considered too low. For two people, a combined income of just 4,000 makes us practically homeless in their eyes—so we aren't deemed eligible for a mortgage. Or, to be more precise, they *will* lend us 150,000—but houses in our area start at 400,000. That’s just how it is.
